Magherafelt High began their Eco schools journey in April 2008 after several students felt moved to do something about the school's environmental credentials.

The Eco group had their first meeting in May 2008 with almost 15 sudents and teachers in attendance. Over the months this membership has swollen to almost 30 students and teachers.

After some careful research the committee members decided to sign-up to the Eco Schools initiative. This scheme would provide the necessary support structure from which the committee could develop an environmental action plan for the school. Click here to view the school action plan.

The committee decided to focus on two theme within the Eco group during the academic year 2008-2009:

1. Paper Recycling
2. Litter Reduction
