Diabetes

BBC School Reports

What are the different types of diabetes?
Type 1 Juvenile
People who need to inject insulin several times a day.

Type 2: (adults)
Controlled with a diet and drugs.

What are the warning signs of type 1?
The child will be very thirsty and go to the toilet a lot.
Most children with type 1 are believed to have something that will trigar off the pancreas and stop it from producing insulin.
This diabetes is not caused by eating too much sugar or something the parents have did. This disease is a life long condition.

Controlling diabetes:
Because diabetes can’t produce insulin it has to be given by a regular injection as well as this person has to have a good diet and regular exercise.
They have a machine to carry with them and this reads their blood glucose level. The blood glucose must remain between 4 and 7 to maintain good health. If it is to high insulin must be given to bring it down.

Talking to other peoples with diabetes is very important to help the person cope with what their getting on with.

On average the life of a person with type 1 is shortened by 15 YEARS! Diabetes is difficult to deal with. But research has showed a lot of improvement.

I have had a very tough time with my uncle being a diabetic. My uncle developed diabetes when he was nine years old. He drank, smoked and ate the wrong food and after just 3 months marriage died at the age of 23 years old with a heart attack.
Heart attacks, blindness and gangrene goes along with diabetes too.

My brother developed diabetes at 4 years old. Ty hates carrying supplies around with him, but me and my mum always complains to him saying that “carrying a blood machine and injections around can save your life!”

Obesity is one of the most common thing that leads to diabetes, there fore if you don’t want to end up with this disability I ask you to please keep track on how much sugar is carried into your bodie.
