Former Student heading for London 2012

While most of us will be content to sit on our sofas at home and watch the London Olympics, former Magherafelt High School student James Dempsey set about getting a slightly closer view on proceedings.

James wanted to see the Olympics first-hand and so set about realising his dream back in late 2010. After successfully negotiating a rigorous interview and selection process, James finally found out he was one of the lucky ones to be selected for the ‘friendly face’ of the games from over 250,000 applicants.

James commented, " It was like winning the lottery.....the venue I have been assigned to is Excel in London City Centre where the following sports will take place: Boxing, Fencing, Judo, Table Tennis and loads more." As an unofficial ‘face of the Games’, James will be responsible for welcoming visitors into safe, secure venues.

This team have been especially chosen to ensure that all competitors and visitors to the games are made welcome and enjoy the London 2012 experience. Magherafelt High School would like to wish James all best in this ambassadorial role.
