Congratulations to the Magherafelt High School FIRST Lego League Team of 2011 who won first prize in the Robot Performance category of the Northern Ireland regional final held in W5, Belfast, on Tuesday 29th November.
This is the third year a team have represented Magherafelt High School in the Lego League competition. 2011 saw the largest entry of 19 schools from across Northern Ireland going head to head for the prizes at W5.
FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program for 9 to 16 year olds, which is designed to get children excited about science and technology, and teach them valuable employment and life skills. The pupils compete for a prize in four main categories; Robot Design, Project Presentation, Core Values and Robot Performance. In each category the pupils are questioned by experienced Engineers giving them valuable experience of presentation and interview skills.
A big thank you to the team sponsor Queen’s University Belfast Widening Participation Unit, and their mentor Keith Chambers from FG Wilson (Engineering) Ltd.
