Fun Run @ the Belfast Maraton

Yes on our day off (when most normal people are still in bed) we left Magherafelt at 7.30am. By the time we arrived at the City Hall most of us had woken up! After watching the main Marathon Runners cross the starting line it was our turn to get limbered up. Some of us were keen to get up to the front of the 1,500 runners to make a fast start. Whilst the rest of us merrily ambled along! We ‘ran’/jogged/walked 2.5 miles from Belfast City Hall to Ormeau Park.

The Fun Run is a non-competitive event so our individual finishing time and place did not matter. We all enjoying the carnival atmosphere and joined thousands of people raising money for various good causes. Some of us were trying to soak up the sun and enjoy the last rays of the Easter holidays! Everyone was certainly glowing as they crossed the line! Thankfully no one got lost and no one got re-routed around the shops!!!

After crossing the finish line the free Tayto Crisps and water were greatly appreciated. It was only 10am and we were ready for home!! Nevertheless, everyone on the bus had worked up an appetite so we pulled over at Junction 1 to re-fuel! The bus driver deserves a medal. He was fantastic at navigating around the diversions in Belfast despite pressure from a couple of young backseat drivers!

Sub-way at Junction 1 made good profit from us! But hey we earned it! Burger King was an option – but it was too far to walk!!!!!! Anyway Sub-way is a healthier option (I have to get a word in about healthy eating somewhere!!)

You should all be proud of yourselves for taking part and by raising money for our fantastic new school (and for getting up so early on the last day of the Easter holidays) Another big thank you to all of you for raising so much money (the run was probably the easy part!)

Well done to Sarah McFarlane who managed to raise a tremendous £145. But, every penny counts and at the last count we have raised £546.

We all arrived back safe, satisfied, tired and injury free! Most of the gang would do it again and would recommend it! Unfortunately the organisers of the Belfast City Marathon are considering moving the event to a Sunday from next year! This does cause concern amongst school groups and Church groups.
But if we cannot do Belfast Fun Run next year there are many other fun run events we can do instead (and they may even be longer than 2.5 miles!) So watch this space!

A big thank-you tall who took part in what what turned out to be a hugely enjoyable day!
