U14s Hit Six at Dunluce A clinical performance by a fired-up Magherafelt team, secured all the points on a rain-soaked afternoon in Dunluce. The first half got off to a flyer with Magherafelt opening the scoring within a couple of minutes of kick-off. This filled the team with confidence and sent shockwaves through the Dunluce team. With the Ritchie twins dominating the aerial battle, the midfield were urged into action to make full use of the ball supply. It was an opportunity not to be missed. Young Conor Stewart made surging runs through the Dunluce midfield setting up goal-scoring chances for the strikers who peppered the inexperienced Dunluce keeper all afternoon. Indeed the Dunluce keeper got so much training picking the ball out of the net that, he should apply to be a ball boy at Wimbledon next year. To their credit, and despite relentless pressure from the Magherafelt midfield, the Dunluce lads never gave up the fight and had a several chances in the second half to reduce the deficit. This pressure paid off and they managed to reduce the deficit to two goals (1-3) halfway through the half. It wasn't enough though and the tireless running of Michael Scott and Matthew Fry heaped the pressure on a tiring Dunluce defence. The commanding presence of the Ritchie twins in the box dominated their defensive thinking freeing up the rest of attacking strikeforce to wreak havoc in front of goal. They duly obliged with a brace each from the Ritchie twins and goals from Matthew Fry and Conor Stewart securing a thoroughly deserved win. Based on their performance today, this Magherafelt team have nothing to fear going into the next weeks Garvagh game. Mr Martin [9th October 2008] | |||||||||||||||
