U14s Snatch Win in Close Encounter The Under-14s snatched a hard-fought 3-2 win from the jaws of defeat yesterday against a spirited North Coast Integrated. The North Coast twice led in the first half, the first of which a controversial penalty from the home-ref and coach Mr Martin. A intelligent through ball by the North Coast midfielder was cleared by Jonny Richie only to catch the North Coast striker who duly obliged and went down in the area. 1-0 North Coast Integrated. Game on! The boys from the ‘Felt responded with true grit, dominating possession for the rest of the half. This advantage was pressed home with an goal just before half-time to level the scores. The Magherafelt Boys got off to a great start in the second half with an early goal from young Stuart Bradley. This advantage was soon cancelled out however with a thoroughly deserved goal by North Coast. With the game looking as if it was going to extra-time, up-stepped Jason Ritchie with a wonderfully executed goal from a corner which with 5 mins to go, leaving the ‘Felt boys in control of their own destiny. The game however was to a take a late twist however when Jason Ricthie in a desperate attempt to prevent the enigmatic North Coast striker from scoring, scythed down the striker just outside the box with a tackle that would have made tackle of the season at the Rainey Old Boys. Ritchie was yellow-carded for the offence and the visitors had an opportunity to take the match into extra-time. With the free-kick still sailing over the bar, the final whistle blew and the Magherafelt boys had reached the final. The final will be played in the new year against Dalriada Grammar School, Ballymoney.
