U16s Blitz Sorry Dalriada

It was two wins from two for the talented Under 16 team from Magherafelt High School after an emphatic victory over Dalriada Grammar School at their home ground in Ballymoney.

Having arrived early the MHS boys commenced a thorough warm up which saw them start the match with ‘all guns firing’!

The boys from Ballymoney had hardly a touch of the ball before the first MHS chance was wizzed over the bar by Liam Stewart. Unfortunately this was only the first of a long list of good chances wasted by the attacking unit from Magherafelt. Lessons were obviously not learned at their last training session which had the emphasis on ‘hitting the target’ and ‘making the keeper work’.

At the opposite end of the pitch the defensive unit dealt relatively effectively with any Dalriada attack as there was strong sunlight streaming down the left side of the pitch.

Goals in the first half were scored by Liam Stewart (2), Stuart Lennox (1) and Scott Coles (1).

In the second half Gareth Johnston was brought on for Rick McKnight, Stuart Moore replaced Stuart Lennox and a few minutes into the second half Stephen Cochrane was replaced by Matthew Campbell. Aside from the substitutes, the swapping of first half goal keeper Trevor Jordan for striker Scott Coles proved most productive as the ‘big lad’ blasted three past the agile Dalriada keeper. Liam Stewart completed his hatrick and Gareth McLean added the finishing touches to the overwhelming score line.

The game was quite rightly blown up early and the boys from MHS are very much looking forward to their final league game which will be away to much tougher opposition in the form of North Coast Integrated

Reasons to be cheerful

  1. Nine well finished goals
  2. No injuries

Reasons to be fearful

  1. Only nine goals (again quite a few shots way off target)

Reasons to be earful

  1. Defence must listen to the call to ‘‘get out’’
  2. Some dodgy off key singing on the bus trip home

Reasons to be tearful

  1. With all squad members playing well and the availability for selection of Jordan and Nicky for the next game some players are going to get left out of the squad

See you all on Monday 3rd November at Meadowbank for training!
