YEAR 10 PUPIL KAI ELLIOTT RECALLS HIS GREAT GRANDFATHERS' WHO FOUGHT IN WWI

Year 10 pupil Kai Elliott teaching pupils of 8A4 about his relatives Lance Corporal Matthew Hassin and Corporal Andrew Elliott affectionally known as Corporal Dardanelles.  His great Grandfathers who fought in World War One, in Gallipoli, The Somme, St. Quentin, Passchendaele and Ypres.  Lance Corporal Hassin received the Medal for Gallantry Service and both also acquired the Victory Medal at the end of the War.

Big congratulations to the Magherafelt High School team of Fun Runners who picked up the prize for second biggest school group participating. such a lovely evening at the Belfast Marathon Award Ceremony. A Big well done to all the pupils involved and many thanks to staff members Miss Alexander (Event Organiser), Mrs Davidson, Mr Charles and Mr Campbell for all their assistance.

PAST PUPIL REBECCA RAINEY AWARDED THE ELANCO SCHOLARSHIP AT HARPER ADAMS UNIVERSITY

Rebecca Rainey, who was a Year 14 pupil in 2015/16, recently returned to the school along with Mr Basil Bayne, Alumni Representative for Harper Adams University in Northern Ireland.

Rebecca, who is currently studying Animal Sciences at the University, has been awarded a Scholarship by Elanco (Animal Health), part of the international Eli Lilly group of companies, to support her studies over the next three years.

Rebecca was the highest performing student in Northern Ireland in the CCEA Environmental Technology Course in 2016 and obviously continues to impress with her work and effort at University, as reflected through this award. The school would like to pass on its congratulations to Rebecca for her achievement and wish her great success for her future studies.

MHS LEGO TEAM SUCCESS AT UK & IRELAND FLL FINAL IN BRISTOL

We are delighted to announce our LEGO team picked up one of the four main judging category awards at the UK & Ireland FLL Final. 

The team were presented the 'Core Values Award' for their outstanding demonstration of teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the competition.

This award allows the team to represent the UK and Ireland at the European Open Championships in Denmark in May and the International FLL Open Championships in Bath UK in June.
